Yangon – According to the Ministry of Transport, the aviation sector earned US$ 31 Million abroad in first quarter of FY 2014-2015.
Flyover rights payment accounts for 80 percent of that revenue, which totaled US$ 31.036 million till the beginning of July. Domestic revenue from the aviation sector was K 18,000.227 million (over K 18 billion).
In 2013-2014 FY, Myanmar’s aviation sector income reached K 85 billion domestically and US$ 86 million abroad. Total foreign income from aviation during four years of the new government’s term (from FY 2010-2011 to FY 2013-2014) amounted to US$ 295.628 million.
“Most of the foreign revenue comes from flyover rights payment. Services to planes arriving in the country also generate foreign revenue as well,” a director from Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said.
Currently, a total of 26 international airlines have flights to and from Myanmar, and over 550 planes are flying over the country daily, according to data from the DCA.
